Is Invisalign suitable for you? As a discreet, effective way to straighten teeth, here’s what you need to know.
It’s no secret that straight, neatly aligned teeth make for a beautiful and aesthetic smile. Traditionally, the only way to achieve this was through braces, and the not-so-subtle “rail track” appearance that goes with it.
Thankfully, straightening teeth no longer always requires such intrusive treatment. Enter Invisalign, which is almost undetectable in appearance during treatment, delivers excellent results and is suitable for most patients.
Advances in orthodontic technology have made the Invisalign treatment possible, which has been available at Dental Lounge for more than a decade.
“Having had Invisalign myself, I have seen the remarkable results first-hand,” says lead dentist, Dr Gamer Verdian. “What I love most about Invisalign is that it’s an alternative to braces. And a very good one at that. The technology also allows us to achieve more consistent, predictable results.”
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign is a comfortable and convenient treatment. It consists of a series of customised, clear retainers and very small aligners that are temporarily bonded to your teeth. 3D computer design technology is used to create the retainers, which are laser cut and entirely bespoke to suit the needs of the patient. This sophisticated engineering will rotate, tip, tilt and move your teeth slowly over time to achieve a perfectly straight smile.
During your treatment
Planning is essential to the success of Invisalign, as well as small adjustments to the position of your aligners and retainer along the way. We use ClinCheck, a 3D animation that illustrates the movements that will occur, unique to the positioning of your teeth.
Once your Invisalign has been fitted, you can drop into one of our practices every 6-12 weeks for a 15-minute adjustment and check-in. You will need to wear your retainer for at least 22 hours per day – but it can be easily removed during meals or if you have an important meeting. Most patients find their Invisalign is so subtle in appearance however, that it’s unobtrusive enough to wear everywhere.
Caring for your Invisalign retainer
It’s best not to eat or drink while wearing your retainer. However, it is easy to remove for meals at your convenience.
Keeping your retainer clean is important for good hygiene and to preserve their structure. Follow these four easy steps:
- Rinse them to get rid of saliva and bacteria.
- Soak them in a sanitising solution recommended by your dentist.
- Clean them with a clear antibacterial soap, take care not to scratch them.
- Brush and floss your teeth as normal.
Invisalign results and aftercare
Many people ask us if Invisalign works, and to that we respond with a resounding yes. There are only a few exceptions where Invisalign may be unsuitable, however our team of clinicians are here to discuss the best course of action.
As one of the first practices to offer Invisalign in Sydney more than a decade ago, our results are impressive as we’ve straightened and corrected hundreds of smiles over the years.
After your Invisalign treatment is complete you will love your newly straightened smile. Our goal is to keep your teeth in position as much as possible, which we may do by applying a discreet metal retainer behind your lower and upper front teeth. Rest assured, most patients barely notice its presence – and it helps avoid the need to make further corrections to the position of your teeth in the future.
