What is gum recontouring?
Patients may require or desire gum recontouring as part of cosmetic treatment at Dental Lounge. We are well equipped and experienced for this procedure, and offer two varieties for treatment. Come in and see a practitioner to find out which option is best for you, and to determine the results you can expect to achieve.
Laser gum recontouring
Laser gum re-contouring is often also referred to as gum lifting. It describes the process of delicately removing excess gum tissue and shaping existing gum tissue with the use of a laser. This procedure is used to correct a gummy smile. This is typically noticed in patients that show too much gum in their smile, or are unhappy with uneven gum lines. Laser technology allows for a conservative approach to the removal of gum tissue, as it is extremely precise and avoids any intervention of large surgical removal of gum tissue. The recovery for laser gum recontouring is minimal and most patients are able to return to work the following day.
Cosmetic injections for gummy smiles
Cosmetic injections are a fast, non-invasive and an effective alternative to treat a gummy smile. By relaxing specific muscles of a patients face, cosmetic injections help to redesign the smile entirely. This is done as muscles become restricted and cannot raise the lips beyond a certain point. This, therefore, controls the amount of gum visibility, giving patients an aesthetically successful outcome. This method is quick and can be performed with minimal discomfort by an experienced cosmetic dentist at Dental Lounge. It takes just about 15 minutes and requires minimal downtime. Some patients have this procedure done during their lunch break.
Directly after laser gum re-contouring you will need to use hot salt water mouth rinses to help the process of healing. If you experience any soreness, we recommend taking regular painkillers. Please speak to your practitioner for further instructions.
Immediately after injections, individuals may notice some swelling or redness. This is usually nothing serious and you may return to work the same day. We recommend top-ups of your injections over the course of time to maintain your desired result.
